Adventure
Central Newfoundland represents the largest portion of wilderness on the Island and a wide variety of wildlife can be spotted throughout. Sometime the viewing becomes a hazard as Moose and Caribou are often spotted near or on the highways, so keep your eyes open because you will want to miss them (with your car that is).
In addition to the occasional highway wildlife sighting, a variety of new trails are available throughout the area that provide opportunities to view wildlife and nature as you hike through our wilderness or along our coast. A stop at Terra Nova National Park provides a further opportunity to learn about the Newfoundland Wilderness and Marine Environments. For those planning to camp, a variety of parks are and related services are available throughout the area.
Follow the routes used by the Beothuk and early explorers of Newfoundland as you navigate the many rivers and lakes either by canoe, kayak and/or river raft. If you need assistance in your exploration contact one of the many tour operators and let them guide you through our wilderness.
If hunting and/or fishing are your preferred pastime a variety of licensed salmon rivers are available throughout the area and big game is abundant. Restrictions do apply with respect to fishing and hunting in the province. Licensed outfitters are available to assist you in arranging your expedition.
In the winter our wilderness can be explored on snowmobiles through a variety on groomed and ungroomed trails. Local guides will assist you in planning your snowmobile vacation. Also, alpine skiing is available a Copper Creek in Baie Verte, and a number trails are available for cross-country skiing.
A variety of adventures awaits you when you visit Central Newfoundland.
