The Coast of Bays has maintained a vibrant and unique culture due to the areas relative isolation from the rest of Newfoundland. Learn about our culture with a visit to our heritage sites and discover the Mi'Kmaq culture as you stop by the Miawpukek First Nation in Conne River.
Nature and Adventure are part of any trip to the Coast of Bays. Fish for Rainbow Trout year round or experience the thrill of catching an Atlantic salmon. Hike to the top of Ironskull (Belleoram), to Stones Head (near Boxey), climb Gun Hill in Harbour Breton or Devils Knob in Hermitage and get a first hand look at the rugged coastline. Or just relax at one of the many attractive sandy beaches or swimming holes that offer scenic areas in which to hike, picnic, and beachcomb. For the more adventurous, backpack, canoe, kayak, or fly into the Bay Du Nord Wilderness Reserve and down the Bay du Nord Canadian Heritage River (permit and user guide available from Dept. of Tourism).
